Botaurus stellaris
The results obtained with the bird monitoring allow to estimate the regular occurrence in winter of 2-3 individuals, a figure which is important considering that just a few tens of Great Bitterns are estimated in the whole lagoon of Venice. Dedicated surveys made in spring did not find any proof of breeding for this very rare species. Camera trapping showed that the Great Bittern make in WWF Oasis of Valle Averto regular use of the new Cladium mariscus plantings.
