The avocet Recurvirostra avosetta in Italy is a wintering, migratory and partially sedentary species; there are about 2,000 nesting pairs, increasing in recent years. In winter there are about 7,000 individuals, mostly in the Venice lagoon and in the Po delta. The avocet mainly occurs at wetlands along the coasts, sometimes even at artificial basins such as salt pans In the WWF Oasis of Valle Averto it is present all year round, up to a maximum of 200-300 individuals, but it does not nest.
