The  ferruginous Duck Aythya nyroca in Italy is a localized nesting duck, with less than 100 pairs, as well as a regular migrating and wintering species. It prefers shallow freshwater wetlands, with vast reedbeds and submerged vegetation, also if these are man-made. In recent years it has been steadily increasing, both in Italy and in the Veneto region. In the WWF Oasis of Valle Averto 2-3 individuals were seen in the last years, during migrations and in winter.
